BAMBOOZLE!
WOW! What a Weekend!
I got to see some of my favorite bands play, I got to see SO many old friends, and when it came time for our set, it was definitely one of the best and most rewarding performances of my career! Also of course I can’t forget how awesome it was to get a chance to meet so many of our awesome fans!
Lets start with Saturday.
We did not play this day, but we still attended. I mean why the hell would we miss it?
I spent a lot of time in the crowds meeting people, hangin out and trying to sell this cd of ours. It was actually a lot of fun, and the weather was a lot better than anyone thought it would be (well for this day atleast). I have the sunburn to prove it! The first standout performance I saw was my boys in Sing It Loud, if you like their music or not, my boys know how to play a show! Charlie Fox (the sound guy) did a great job at making them sound good too!
I went into this day thinking there is really only two bands I NEEEEED to see because my life depends on it. Those being The Get Up Kids, and Third Eye Blind.
When I saw The Get Up Kids, I was overrun with nostalgia, and joy. This is a band i came up in junior high and highschool listening to, one of my favorites at the time. They were one of the first bands to get me excited about music, and I was so happy to hear them play many older songs from something to write home about. I was pretty dissapointed honestly though at how short they had to play, and that I heard NOTHING from On the Wire. If for any reason you haven’t heard The Get Up Kids, go buy those two records….now!
So as I’m waiting for Third Eye Blind to start, hanging out at the FBR tent I hear a song start to play from the wonka state and instantly freak out… “fucking Journey?!?!” comes out of my mouth uncontrollably and I start running over to the stage. I basically stand their jaw dropped the entire set in awh. I remember that after the set that even if that was really journey that steve perry isn’t even the singer anymore, and then someone points out that it was just a really good journey cover band. The way I see it I don’t care, It still got me!!
So then of course 3eb plays and does not dissapoint, despite some pitchiness from Steven Jenkins. Either way, It’s Third Eye Blind! they could shit on a microphone and it’d sound awesome somehow. (extreme exageration obviously).
Also I should say, Fall Out Boy sounded better than i’ve ever heard them, They have really stepped their liveshow up. Too me however 3eb was the band of the night!
Onto Sunday,
I didnt get to hang out near as much this day, because we had a lot of press stuff, also the weather was aweful…everyone was soaked! Too top it off I was exhausted so I took frequent visits to the monster truck.
Watched some of the Ataris, and the whole nostalgia feeling I had from the Get Up Kids happened again. not as much too be honest but still, great to see them up there!
Then the Sounds! one of my favorites! Unfortunately, I was only able to catch 3 songs because we had to leave to do some interviews and stuff.
While we were doing the signing at the FBR booth 3OH!3 went up and I couldnt help but want to dance. Something about them! they’re one of the hottest things in music right now, It’s so crazy to watch.
Then it came time for our set, I was actually nervous! I never get nervous!
The set was so much fun! all of you there were great to us, it was so cool to see so many people singing along to our new songs as well as the old!
After the set I met some of you, then rushed over to catch Taking Back Sunday. I’ve seen this band a few times, this was easily the best performance i’ve ever seen of theres and probably one of the best performances from anyone all weekend. They tore it up!!
Then No Doubt stole the whole show, the whole fuckin weekend! Played flawlessly, the perfect mix of songs. Let me add that Tragic Kingdom was one of the first albums I ever bought. Anyone going to that No Doubt/Paramore tour is in for a treat. Hope i’m around to catch it somewhere!
Overall the weekend was incredible, left me tired, sunburnt, deaf, wet. well worth it though!
